Derek Lynch is considered one of Canada’s most accomplished oval track racers.  Since his introduction to motorsports at the age of 10, Derek has found success at every level in which he has competed.  Derek comes from a family oriented racing background that began with his father Dave Lynch.  Dave was one of Ontario’s best Late Model racers of the 1970’s and 1980’s.  His lessons where passed on to his son and Derek has continued to carry the torch to the next level.  Derek’s parents Dave and Linda Lynch of Norwood are still actively involved today.

Derek’s career began in 1981 in Go-Karts.  After winning several Karting championships in Ontario and Quebec, Derek made the move to full bodied Stock Cars at the age of 14.  At the age of 15 Derek captured the Late Model Sportsman Championship at Peterborough Speedway.   The next several years saw Derek competing with great success in the American Canadian Tour, a New England based travelling Late Model series.  Success with ACT led Derek to the NASCAR BUSCH Grand National North Series.  Derek spent a year and a half in the NASCAR BGNN series and scored several top 10 finishes along with a runner-up finish in the Rookie of the Year standings.

Taking a brief hiatus from driving Derek moved to Charlotte, N.C. in 1996 and began a tenure with several top Nextel Cup Teams.  Among those that Derek worked for as a fabricator included, Darrell Waltrip Motorsports, Bobby Allison Motorsports, Stavola Brothers Racing and Dale Earnhardt Incorporated.

Upon his return to Canada Derek resumed his driving career.  Picking right up where he left off, Derek scored several wins in area Super Late Model races.

In 2004 Derek took over the job of promoter and manager of the 3/8 mile Kawartha Speedway oval in Fraserville, Ontario, before competing successfully in selected CASCAR Super Series events in 2005 and 2006.  In ten races in those two years Derek scored 1 top 5 and 6 top ten finishes.

When the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series debuted in 2007, Derek was on the list of full time competitors and when the season ended he found himself as one of only 6 drivers who scored a series win and he also amassed 5 Top 5 finishes and 8 Top 10 finishes.

2008 will see Derek enter his 5th season in his managerial role at Kawartha Speedway, as well as campaigning on the entire NASCAR Canadian Tire series schedule.  Derek will be looking to better his Top 5 finish in the Championship points standings, as well as adding to the win column.
